Less than 4% of Walker County’s registered voters went to the polls for yesterday’s special election. The countywide ESPLOST was once again approved. The tax benefits Walker County Schools, it passed easily. The race for the City of LaFayette Council seat for Ward 1 went to Tom Langford. In total only 1,569 votes were cast.
A wind advisory is in effect for all of Northwest Georgia today. That includes all of Walker County. The National Weather Service has issued the advisory saying we could see wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour.
GDOT has plans to do work on I-75 southbound in Catoosa County tonight. Provided there are no unexpected changes in the weather, GDOT crews will close the two left southbound lanes of 75. The work will occur between mile marker 346 and 345. The closure takes place tonight beginning at 8pm and will remain closed until 4am. Again, that is only the southbound lanes that are impacted.
Five felony arrests in Walker County on Monday. 34-year-old Nicholas Kevin Thomas was charged with aggravated assault and burglary. 24-year-old Chandler Levi Gann also faces aggravated assault and battery charges. 22-year-old Brittany Michelle Wallace was booked on possession of meth charges.
