Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected the next few days, both during the day and at night. We’ll see temperatures in the mid 80’s locally. South of us, in middle Georgia, temperatures may exceed 90 degrees in many areas. Temperatures are expected to be somewhere between 18-25 degrees above normal for this time of the year. We are not expected to reach a “Heat Advisory”, that’s based off the heat index. The National Weather Service says that those who are sensitive to heat-related illness will be at a moderate risk for heat illness from prolonged exposure. Those at risk should avoid the heat and remain inside in air-conditioned homes or facilities. This advisory is in effect for all of Northwest Georgia, including Walker, Catoosa, Dade and Chattooga Counties.

As the weather warms up, we’ll begin to hear more about the possibility of tornadoes. The National Weather Service says six tornadoes have touched down in the state this year. The most recent was Monday in Carroll County.

According to Walker County, the USDA Wildlife Services will distribute oral rabies vaccines starting Monday of next week. The bait drops are part of a national effort to prevent the spread of raccoon rabies in the eastern US. The baits will be dropped by low flying planes and helicopters. The baits are not harmful to pets. Officials say you should leave the baits alone if you find them. Unless they are located in areas were children play. Then put on gloves or pick them up with a towel and throw them into a bushy or wooded area where wildlife is more likely to find it.

The Walker County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight at 6pm. The meeting will happen at the Courthouse Annex III on South Main Street in LaFayette. Among the items on the agenda, a resolution to amend the county budget for the fiscal year. 3 requests for a variance will be heard. one in Chickamauga, LaFayette and Rossville.
