Walker County’s unemployment rate was up two-tenths of a percentage last month. February unemployment numbers were at 3.4% in the county. That’s up from 3.2% in January. It’s risen four-tenths since last February when it was at 3%. There are 1,113 unemployed in Walker County. Elsewhere in Northwest Georgia, Chattooga’s unemployment rate was up just slightly from January to 4.2% in February. Catoosa County’s unemployment is at 3.4%. Dade County is at 3.6%.

Four felony arrest in Walker County on Wednesday. Among those arrested, 52-year-old Theodore E. Damron was charged with shop lifting. 52-year-old Christy Lee Blevins was booked on habitual violator driving on a revoked license.

Chattooga County along with agents from the Lookout Mountain Drug Task Force arrested a man on drug and explosive charges Wednesday. Authorities were conducting a narcotics investigation on Highway 27 in the Gore Community. Police uncovered narcotics along with an explosive device. The GBI performed an x-ray of the device and were able to dismantle it. 26-year-old Bryce Adam Godfrey was taken into custody. Godfrey faces drug related charges along with charges related to the explosive device.

Drought conditions for Walker County have improved over the last month. 64% of the county is listed as abnormally dry. That’s an improvement from last month when the county was listed in a moderate drought. The information comes from the US Drought Monitor. You can learn more at drought.gov.
