Walker County School officials say there was a cyber security incident last month. Superintendent Damon Raines says school leader just learned of the security breach on Tuesday in an email from PowerSchool. PowerSchool is the vendor of the Student Information System. It’s the program that allows parents to monitor their child’s grades. In an email to Walker County Schools PowerSchool says the company learned that its customer support portal called “PowerSource” was accessed by an unauthorized party on December 28th. The email says that while there is no evidence of malware or further unauthorized access, information belonging to families and educators in the school system was obtained by the culprit. PowerSchool says that law enforcement has been notified. The company has implemented tightened security measures and no other products by the company have been affected.
