The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Walker County. It starts at 7am on Friday and runs until 7am Saturday. A watch means conditions are favorable for winter precipitation. Snow and sleet accumulation in the mountains could be 3-6-inches.
The forecast for tomorrow is calling for some winter weather. GDOT started brine operations on roadways last night. GDOT will treat roadways, bridges and overpasses prior to the storm. Brine is a mixture of salt and water. It’s used as a preventative treatment to limit the bonding of ice to pavement. Brine operations across northwest Georgia started at 7pm last night. Crews are prioritizing interstates, state routes, bridges and overpasses.
Some winter weather headed our way, that means some closing announcements. GNTC has announced that they are cancelling all classes on Friday. School leaders say in anticipation of severe weather all classes activities and events are closed. The Georgia Department of Public Health has announced that the Health Department in Walker County will be closed tomorrow. The district office in Rome will also be closed. Walker County and Chattooga County government offices will be close tomorrow.
The Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit has announced the historic appointment of two female Chief Assistant District Attorney’s. Deanna Reisman and Lynsay Chapman are both Walker County natives. Chapman is a Gordon Lee graduate, while Reisman graduated from LaFayette High School. It’s the first time in the circuits history that women have held these leadership positions. Both Reisman and Chapman have over a decade’s worth of prosecuting experience. The pair will replace outgoing Chief Assistant Kevin Baugh.
LaFayette High School boys and girls’ basketball games set for tomorrow night have been moved to tonight. The Lady Ramblers and Ramblers hit the road for Northwest Whitfield tonight. Girl’s game is at 6pm. Boys game begins at 7pm. Snow may be about to start falling but spring is coming soon. LaFayette High School baseball gets their season underway Thursday February 11th.
