Walker County Schools are closed today. School officials say they decided to close due to the conditions of the secondary roads and shaded areas across the county and in the mountains. Officials are also concerned with the sidewalks and parking lots at the schools. Chickamauga City Schools are also closed today.

Walker County’s new commission held its first meeting of 2025 last week. The meeting marked the first for newly elected Chair Angie Teems. The commission has decided to trim its meeting schedule down. The commission amended a county law requiring two monthly meetings. County officials say the single monthly meeting allows for more time for agenda setting and preparation. The next meeting is set for 6pm on Thursday February 6th. A fugitive wanted in Catoosa County was arrested yesterday morning in Hamilton County. Brandon Frady is wanted in Catoosa on charges of aggravated assault, simple battery, criminal trespass and two counts of cruelty to children. Hamilton County deputies received a tip yesterday on Frady’s whereabouts. When they arrived at the East Brainerd residence, Frady had left on foot. A K-9 unit was able to track Frady through the snow. Frady was found hiding in a bush behind a fallen tree near a gas station on East Brainerd road. Hamilton County has charged Frady with evading arrest. Frady will be extradited to Catoosa county once the evading arrest charge is resolved.
