Georgia drivers are getting some relief at the gas pump. AAA says the statewide average for regular gasoline has dropped to three-78 a gallon, down three cents from last week and eleven cents from last month. Lower demand and strong refinery production are helping boost fuel supplies. AAA cautions, however, that elevated crude oil prices and geopolitical uncertainty could quickly push prices higher again. Closer to home, Dalton has one of Georgia’s lowest average gas prices at three-70 a gallon.
Drivers should prepare for heavier traffic during this Labor Day weekend. Georgia DOT will suspend most interstate lane closures from noon Friday, through 5 a.m. Tuesday. Moderate congestion is expected on Interstate 75 near Chattanooga and along I-24 near the Tennessee state line. Drivers can check conditions by dialing 511 or using the 511 Georgia app. Georgia DOT also reminds motorists to slow down, avoid distractions, and move over for emergency and roadside crews.
