A trial began Monday in Walker County for the 2021 death of a college student in a car crash.
Eden Muina was only 20 years old when she tragically died in a car crash on her way back to school at Berry College in Rome. She was coming from her parent’s home in Fort Oglethorpe at approximately 5:45 a.m. on the morning of September 11, 2021. She had been the valedictorian at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. The accident occurred just south of Lafayette at the intersection of U.S. Highway 27 and Georgia State Highway 337. Monday, the other driver involved in that crash, Larry Cagle, began his trial for misdemeanor vehicular homicide and failure to yield.
Seven felony arrests on Sunday in Walker County. Among those arrested; 53-year-old Robert Lee Flake was booked on charges of terroristic threats, aggravated assault and simple battery. 33-year-old Steven Cody Childes was booked on felony charges of terroristic threats. 44-year-old Christy Marie McCulligh was charged with possession of a schedule II. Quinten Lamar Howard, 39-years-old, was booked on aggravated assault and cruelty to children. 43-year-old Crystal Elaine Massangale was arrested on a charge of possession of fentanyl. 39-year-old Ashley Nicole Smith faces aggravated assault and criminal trespassing charges.
Gas prices have jumped 7-cents over the last week across the state of Georgia. The average price for a gallon of unleaded gas is $3.46 across the state. Locally, we still have the lowest gas prices in Georgia. Dade, Walker and Catoosa Counties pay an average of $3.24 per gallon. Savannah has the most expensive gas at $3.42 a gallon.
The Walker County Sheriff’s Office will have its awards and recognition ceremony tomorrow night. Civilians and officers will be recognized at the event. Refreshments will be served from 6:30 to 7. The program starts at 7. It will be held at the Walker County Civic Center on North Highway 27 in Rock Spring. The event is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.
