Walker County continues to grow. According to the latest numbers from the Census Bureau the county’s population grew 2.7% from 2020 to 2023. 69,489 people live in Walker County.
There is more work being done this week on the sewer redirection project. McFarland Avenue to Schmitt Road will be closed today as crews begin work. Detour signs will be posted.
Five felony bookings at the Walker County Detention Center on Monday. Among those booked, 25-year-old Tyler Stephen Cole was charged with aggravated assault. 53 year old Travis Wayne Westbrooks was booked on possession of meth charges.
The LaFayette High School boys golf team competed in the Northwest Georgia Shootout at the Dalton Country Club last weekend. The Ramblers finished tied for first with two other teams before losing in a playoff. Hayden Bowman shot a 3 over 75. Mason Thompson shot an 80. Both were named to the All-Tournament team.
Tonight is the night for a benefit concert for the band at LaFayette High School. LHS alum Channing Wilson will headline the event along with Rob Snyder. Snyder has written songs for Luke Combs among others. Johnathan Singleton will also be performing. Singleton has written for artists like Tim McGraw, Lainey Wilson , Luke Combs and many others. The concert will be held at the LaFayette High School Auditorium. Doors open at 6. The show starts at 7. Proceeds benefit the LHS Marching Band.
