Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced yesterday that Georgia’s February unemployment rate was 3.1. That’s unchanged from a revised 3.1 percent in January. The unemployment rate was eight-tenths lower than the national unemployment rate.
Tax cuts are always popular in an election year. The Georgia State Senate gave approval to two bills yesterday. Both will lower income taxes. One for individuals, the other for corporations. Both bills head to Governor Brian Kemp who is expected to sign them into law.
The City of LaFayette will be holding a planning commission meeting at the Federal Building on North Main Street. The meeting happens Monday at 6:30pm.
The City of LaFayette will name the building at the Lowell Greene Recreation Center after Jennifer Lee Salmon. The ceremony will be held tomorrow at the Rec Center on Webb Wheeler Road. Salmon was a LaFayette native who taught physical education in several Walker County Schools. She was the first director of the Lowell Green Recreation Department. Salmon died in June of last year. She was 87 years old.
