The Appalachian Regional Commission has awarded a grant to Walker County. The grant, totaling more than $430,000 will go towards the Chickamauga Battlefield Connector Trail. The trail will help pedestrians and cyclists connecting downtown Chickamauga from the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. The grant will be paired with local money to complete the 2.2 mile trail. Construction could start as soon as late summer and be wrapped up by the end of the year.

According to Triple-A, the lowest gas prices in the state remain in our corner of Northwest Georgia. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded for Walker, Dade and Catoosa County is $3.27. Gas is $3.29 in Dalton. You can expect to pay $3.30 in Rome. The statewide average is $3.39.

Jailers in Georgia must now check the immigration status of inmates. Governor Brian Kemp signed the bill into law yesterday. Most of the provisions in the law take effect immediately. The Republican governor signed a separate law that requires cash bail for 30 additional crimes and restricts people and charitable bail funds from posting cash bonds for more than three people a year unless they meet the requirements to become a bail bond company. That law takes effect July first.

Seven felony arrests Tuesday in Walker County. 33-year-old Bryant Terrelle Greer and 34-year-old Carmen Danielle Neloms were charged with possession of a schedule II, intent to distribute along with other charges. 46-year-old Joe Humphrey was booked on felony battery charges.
