Walker County has a new Commission Chair.  Challenger Angie Teems defeated the incumbent Shannon Whitfield in yesterday’s election.  Teems won with 59% of the vote.  She was the former Human Resources Director for Walker County.  Whitfield has been in office since 2016.  Steve Wilson won the race to remain Sheriff in Walker County.  Wilson defeated Don Stultz with 74% of the vote in the Republican Primary.  Wilson will run unopposed in November.  Incumbent State Senator Colton Moore defeated challenger Angela Pence with 70% of the vote.  Jeff Davis won the Court of Appeals Judge position over Tabitha Ponder.  Andrew Pinson defeated John Barrow for the Georgia Supreme Court Justice position.  Other local races yesterday Brian Hart won the County Commission District 3 race with 65% of the vote.  It was a tight race for County Commission District 4.  Exactly 100 votes separated the winner Gene Wilson from James Hulsey.  Incumbent Billy Sims will remain your Walker County Coroner defeating Dewayne Wilson with 66% of the vote.
Dade, Walker and Catoosa Counties have the lowest gas prices in the state of Georgia.  A gallons of regular unleaded locally will costs an average of $3,19.  The state average is $3.31.  Triple-A says gas prices are dipping slightly as we head towards the summer travel season.
The Class 3-A State Golf Championships wrapped up yesterday at the LaFayette Golf Club.  On the girls’ side, the Lady Ramblers finished 9th.  Savannah Christian took home the title.  Senior Maggie Green and freshman LC Mullaly shot the lowest scores for LaFayette, both finished with a 97 yesterday.  In boys play, the Ramblers finished 6th.  Gordon Lee finished 7th.  Breman took 5th.  Wesleyan took home the boy’s title.  LaFayette’s Mason Thompson capped off a stellar career with the Ramblers shooting a 77 yesterday, finishing five over.  That was good enough for a sixth-place overall finish.
