The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says a utility trailer has been stolen. The trailer was taken on or about Tuesday. It’s a white utility trailer with Indiana tags. It was stolen from the Villanow area. The trailer has the word Roose in black letters up both sides. The Chattooga County Sheriff’s office is asking for help in finding a missing person. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Ronnie Wells was last seen leaving his residence in the North Halls Valley Drive area of Trion. Wells may suffer from dementia. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white T-shirt. The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office says if you see Ronnie Wells please call 911.
A Chattooga County jail officer has been arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor sexual battery. Corey Lee Hunter was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County jail yesterday. Police started an investigation into Hunter after a complaint about him was filed with the Summerville Police Department. The incident happened while Hunter was off duty. Hunter resigned his position at the jail during the investigation saying that it was best for him and his family.
It took a Catoosa County jury only 15 minutes to convict a Fort Oglethorpe man on several charges of child sexual abuse. 39-year-old Brandon Bennett was convicted on 15 separate charges including two counts of aggravated child molestation, 3 counts of child molestation, six counts of sexual exploitation of children, two counts of computer pornography and one count of invasion of privacy. Judge Brian House sentenced Bennett to serve life, ruling that he’ll have to spend 100-years in prison before he become eligible for parole. Benntt moved to Fort Oglethorpe in 2021 at the request of a woman who was dying from cancer. She asked Bennett to look after he kids. Less than a year after the woman’s death a child confided to a family member that Bennett molested him while he was sleeping. An investigation uncovered several disturbing details.
