The month of March saw Walker County be below normal in rainfall. The information comes from the National Intergrated Drought Information System. Rainfall in March was just over a quarter of an inch below normal. So far in 2024, we are 8-tenths of an inch below the normal rainfall amount. Seven felony arrests in Walker County on Wednesday. Among those booked into the Walker County Detention Center, 56 year-old Janet Lynn Tackett faces charges of possession of a schedule IV. 27-year-old Adam Matthew Roberson was book for possession of a schedule II and possession of meth.

Ground beef sold at Wal-Mart is being recalled. Cargill Meat Solutions is recalling approximately 16,243 pounds of raw ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced. The raw ground beef items were produced on April 26-27, 2024. The products subject to recall all bear the USDA mark of inspection on the front of the product label, and establishment number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the product label. These items were shipped to Walmart retail locations nationwide. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

The Walker County Board of Education will hold a planning session on May 14th at Ridgeland High School. The meeting gets underway at 6pm. The regular session will be May 20th at 6pm at the Department of Education Building in LaFayette.
