On the evening of May 11. Summerville Police responded to a drive-by shooting that took place on Scoggins Street in Summerville. Fortunately, no one was struck by the gunfire despite 4 adults and 3 juveniles being outside the home that was targeted, with an additional juvenile inside the residence. During the investigation it was determined that approximately 6 to 7 shots were fired that struck the residence and a vehicle there. Two suspects were identified and with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department they were located in Lafayette. Investigators from Summerville and Lafayette interviewed both suspects, 22-year-old Aries Vaughn-Curry and 20-year-old Tristan Patterson concerning the incident. Both were ultimately charged with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault and Possession of Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.
The investigation revealed that the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute and was not a random event.
Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson announced yesterday that Georgia’s April unemployment rate was 3.1, unchanged for the fourth consecutive month. The unemployment rate was eight-tenths lower than the national unemployment rate. Jobs were up by 15,500 (0.3 percent) over the month and up by 69,900 (1.4 percent) over the year to 4,967,400, an all-time high. The number of people employed in the state of Georgia is at an all-time high.
There were seven felony arrests in Walker County on Wednesday. 52-year-old Michael Christopher Potter faces two-counts of aggravated assault. 2nd degree criminal damage and hit and run. 45-year-old Latashia Denise Brown faces one felony and one misdemeanor count of shoplifting and two counts of criminal trespassing. 19-year-old Caleb Connor Bates was booked on theft of a motor vehicle and exploitation of an elderly person. 52-year-old Sabrina Louise Goins faces two counts of possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug-related objects.
The Chattanooga Metropolitan airport announced this week that non-stop flights to Las Vegas are starting soon. Alegent Air will offer the flights twice a week. Planes will depart on Thursday and Sunday. Airport officials say the typical seat should be less than $100. The first flight is scheduled for May 15th.
