The City of Chickamauga is asking residents with storm-damaged trees to contact City Hall and request a work order for debris removal.  Officials say fallen trees should be cut into six to eight-foot sections and placed safely near the roadway before pickup is requested.  Cleanup crews are working through a large number of storm-related calls, and officials say it could take several weeks to complete all removals.  The city thanked employees and residents for their patience as recovery continues following severe storms that brought widespread tree damage and power outages across Chickamauga and Walker County.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is warning students about a phishing scam targeting members of the college community.  Officials say fake emails appearing to come from the GNTC Financial Aid Office are being sent to students, but the messages are not from the college.  The emails may ask recipients to click links, provide personal information, or respond to offers involving money. GNTC’s Technology Services team is working to block the messages and remove them from student inboxes.  Students are reminded to verify suspicious emails and contact the college before clicking links or sharing personal information online.
Congressman Clay Fuller is asking for increased federal funding to address PFAS contamination in Northwest Georgia drinking water systems.  Fuller sent letters to members of the House Appropriations Committee, calling for continued investment in water treatment infrastructure, including support for a major project in the City of Summerville.  Fuller says clean drinking water is a basic expectation for every family and called the contamination levels unacceptable.  He says he will continue working with federal, state, and local officials to find long-term solutions to protect public health.
The regular meeting of the Walker County Development Authority scheduled for July 14th has been canceled.  A new date has been announced.
