A Heat Advisory remains in effect for Walker County and surrounding areas through 8 o’clock tonight as hot temperatures and high humidity create dangerous heat conditions.  The advisory covers Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Gordon, Murray, Walker, and Whitfield Counties, with heat index values expected to reach as high as 106 degrees.  Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, avoid prolonged time in the sun, and check on those who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.  Officials remind outdoor workers to take frequent breaks, and say heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 if someone is experiencing severe heat-related symptoms.
A new study estimates Walker County residents spent about 341-thousand dollars on the subscription platform OnlyFans in 2025.  The report from OnlyGuider, a third-party platform tracking website activity and revenue data, estimates Americans spent 2-point-63 billion dollars on OnlyFans last year.  The study says Georgia residents spent a combined 87-point-4 million dollars, ranking the state eighth nationally in total spending.  OnlyFans is a subscription service where creators share content directly with paying subscribers. The platform is best known for adult content, though it also hosts other types of material.  The report estimates Chattooga County residents spent about 114-thousand dollars on the platform in 2025.
Roads across Northwest Georgia are expected to see heavier traffic as millions of Georgians prepare to travel for the Independence Day holiday.  AAA estimates more than 2.4 million Georgians will travel at least 50 miles from home between now and July 5th, setting a new state record. More than 2.1 million are expected to drive.  Georgia DOT is suspending most interstate lane closures from July 3rd through July 6th to help improve traffic flow.  Drivers should expect increased traffic, allow extra time, avoid distractions, buckle up, and never drive impaired. Travelers can check road conditions through the 511 Georgia system.
With a Heat Advisory in effect until 8 p.m. tonight and temperatures expected to climb into the triple digits, Georgia Power is reminding customers of ways to save energy and keep electric bills under control.  The company recommends changing air filters regularly, keeping vents clear, closing blinds during the hottest part of the day, and sealing gaps around doors and windows.  Customers can also save by washing full loads of laundry in cold water, using LED bulbs, and running large appliances during off-peak hours.
