Newly released emails obtained through an open records request show Rossville city officials were aware for months of plans for Walker County’s sale of four acres to technology company BridgTRK. The emails obtained by WRCB show city officials discussing the proposed project before the sale closed, but Mayor Jonathan Lassetter says they do not contradict his claim that the city wasn’t notified the deal was finalized until after the closing. The project must still be rezoned by the City of Rossville before construction can begin. BridgTRK says the planned 1,100-square-foot facility is not a hyperscale data center and will house secure data-processing equipment.
A new Georgia law is designed to help save lives during cardiac emergencies. The Mason Sells AED Coordination Act now requires businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations with Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, to register their locations with local 9-1-1 centers before putting them into service. The law also requires 9-1-1 dispatchers to be trained to provide CPR instructions and help callers locate and use nearby AEDs. The legislation was inspired by the death of Mercer University student Mason Sells, when an AED was available but couldn’t be located in time during a medical emergency.
The Walker County Board of Education meets today at 6 p.m. at the school system’s central office in LaFayette. The board will hear reports from the superintendent and on district facilities before considering purchases that include Chromebooks for Rossville Elementary, curriculum materials, and new furniture for the Walker LAUNCH facility. Board members will also vote on several contracts, fundraising agreements, and personnel recommendations following an executive session.
Two felony arrests on Saturday in Walker County. 30-year-old Chance Asa Lance Coulombe was arrested on a charge of making a terrorist threat. 64-year-old Charles Edward Frashier was charged with possession of meth and a seatbelt violation.
