School is back in session today in Walker County. You may want to allow yourself a little more travel time today. Be aware of those school zones and watch out for busses.
The City of LaFayette is closing Queen City Lake completely to the public today, while crews treat the lake for an invasive aquatic plant. The closure will include the shoreline, dock and open water. Fishing, kayaking and swimming will not be allowed. The treatment targets Eurasian Watermilfoil and was moved up while the beach is already closed. Officials stress the treatment is unrelated to the ongoing investigation into elevated E. coli levels.
Catoosa County Animal Control is asking for help identifying the owner of two dogs found abandoned Sunday at Chickamauga Battlefield. The dogs were tied to a cannon near the museum, across from the Florida Monument. One is a brown-and-white male, the other a brindle female. Anyone with information is asked to call Catoosa County Animal Control at 706-935-2454. Callers can remain anonymous. Officials remind residents that if they can no longer care for an animal, they should contact Animal Control rather than abandon it.
The Outpost is hosting a Georgia Department of Natural Resources presentation later this month at the MARS Theater. The “State of the Wild” program will focus on regional wildlife management areas, wildlife populations and efforts to protect local natural resources. The event is Thursday, August 27th, at 6 p.m. Doors open at 5:30. The program is free and open to all ages, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions of D-N-R personnel.
LaFayette softball is back on the diamond today. The Ramblers travel to Heritage for a 5:30 first pitch. LaFayette started off the season strong with a win on Monday over Adairsville. Paityn Weldon pitched a complete game with 7 strikeouts. She also had a 3 run triple.
