Walker County voters helped decide several key races Tuesday during Georgia’s primary election. In the Walker County Commission District One Republican race, Randy Pittman won with more than 57 percent of the vote. Several statewide races are now headed to June 16 runoffs. The Republican race for Governor will continue between Burt Jones and Rick Jackson. The Republican U.S. Senate race is also headed to a runoff between Mike Collins and Derek Dooley. In State Senate District 53, Lanny Thomas won decisively with 73 percent of the vote.
Four people were booked on felony charges Monday in Walker County. Fifty-three-year-old Kenneth Wesley Burnham was arrested on a possession of meth charge. Fifty-six-year-old Jimmy Wayne Hollingsworth faces charges of motor vehicle theft and driving on a suspended license. Twenty-five-year-old Jonathan Logan Jones was charged with making terroristic threats. And 54-year-old Kandace Amanda Doss was arrested on multiple charges including giving false information to officers, obstruction, possession of drug-related objects, and possession of cocaine, meth, and a synthetic narcotic.
Walker County will officially open Adventure Acres this afternoon in Rossville. The county’s first signature park features a treehouse-themed playground, free splash pad, walking trail, pavilion, and restrooms. A ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 4 p-m at the park on Salem Road. Officials say refreshments and event swag will be available while supplies last.
Georgia Northwestern Technical College will waive its application fee for new students during Free Application Week, June first through fifth. Students applying for the 2026 fall semester can use the code “JUNE26” to have the 25-dollar fee waived. The deadline to apply for fall classes is August fourth, with classes beginning August seventeenth.
