          City and County offices are back open today after the Memorial Day Weekend.  Just a reminder, if Monday is your normal day for garbage pick up in LaFayette.  Get those cans out this morning.  Monday’s garbage pick up will be collected today.
          A Saint Elmo hemp store owner and a woman are facing multiple child sex-related charges following their arrest on warrants issued out of Walker County.  Sheriff’s deputies in Hamilton County arrested David and Heather Rutherford last week on behalf of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office.  Court documents provide few details about the investigation, but list several serious charges, including rape and trafficking involving a child.  Social media profiles show David Rutherford of the owner of Journey Hemp in the Saint Elmo area.  The Walker County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information about the investigation or the arrest.
          The Georgia Department of Public Safety says troopers made 259 DUI arrests statewide during the Memorial Day holiday travel period. Authorities also responded to more than 430 distracted driving incidents and nearly 200 crashes across the state. Those crashes resulted in 108 injuries and three fatalities. Troopers also issued more than 500 seatbelt citations over the holiday weekend.
          Walker County is home to some of the lowest gas prices in the state.  According to Triple-A, the local average price for a gallon of regular gas in Walker, Dade and Catoosa Counties is $3.83 per gallon.  That’s below the statewide average of $3.99.  Nationally, gas prices remain at a four-year high for the Memorial Day travel period.
          LaFayette travel blogger and accessibility advocate Cory Lee will appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show tomorrw afternoon. Lee is best known for his website, “Curb Free with Cory Lee,” where he shares accessible travel experiences and promotes inclusion for travelers with disabilities. Diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy type 2, Lee has become a leading voice for accessible tourism around the world. The show airs locally at 4 p.m. on WCTV-Channel 9 and on Bravo.
