Walker County has announced its 1st signature park. The new park is set to open in the spring of next year and will be called “Adventure Acres”. Located off Salem Road the park will have a nature themed playground, a splash pad, pavilion with restrooms, a quarter mile walking trail and a green space.
Our friends at Queen City Dumpsters are working to collect new items for victims of the hurricane in North Carolina. The items will be delivered to the Bristol Motor Speedway where they will then be hand delivered to first responders in western North Carolina. The drop off location is at a trailer parked at O’Reilly’s in LaFayette. Among the items being collected, non-perishable food items, water, paper products, diapers, body wash, deodorant, socks, batteries, ropes, bungee cords and other items. A newly released economic impact study says that visitor spending continues to grow in Walker County. The data was compiled by Tourism Economics. The report says visitors spent $43.6 million on lodging, food and beverage, recreation, retail and transportation. The report covers 2023. The $43.6 million was up 1.6% over the previous year. The growth was mainly attributed to gains in the food, beverage and recreation sectors. Travel demand in Walker County supported 384 jobs and generated $3-million in state and local tax revenue. According to The Georgia Department of Economic Development estimates that tourism revenue replaced $116 in taxes for every household in the county last year. Statewide the economic impact for Georgia travel and tourism reached $79.7 billion and more than 463,400 jobs across the state.
Four felony arrests in Walker County on Tuesday. 29-year-old Lebron O’Dell Songer was arrested on felony theft charges. 30-year-old Patrick Mull faces charges of felony aggravated battery.
