A Walker County Firefighter is hospitalized in critical condition after being involved in a motorcycle crash. Christopher Lewis was in Alabama to attend a clinical for an AEMT class on Monday. He was involved in a severe motorcycle accident that left him fighting for his life. Lewis was airlifted to a Huntsville hospital where he remains.
Some details on the Monday night crash that left a person trapped in a car. The accident happened around 8:38pm Monday night. A Toyota Tundra was headed northbound on Highway 151. The driver attempted to turn on to Highway 136 while traveling too fast. The Tundra crossed the center line and hit a Freightliner truck on it’s left side. The drive of the Tundra was entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle.
Graduation rates were released yesterday for Walker County Schools. The graduation rates cover a four year span. LaFayette High Schools graduation rate is 93%. Ridgeland High School is at 92%. The county goal is 100%. Walker County Schools continue to perform above the state graduation rates.
An update on another story from yesterday. That Catoosa County teacher that has been accused of child cruelty towards a student also filed a report against the student. According to the report, the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office met with Kimberly Shea Malone on Friday at LFO. Malone told police that she was working with three other teachers to monitor an event on the football field. The Student wanted to leave the event and Malone and other staff told her she could not leave. The report says the student then started “cussing and using her body in an aggressive manner” to push past Malone. Malone grabbed the student’s backpack in an attempt to stop her from leaving. The student was taken back to the football field only to walk past the teacher and leave. Malone contact the SRO and school administration regarding the student and the incident. According to Malone’s attorney, several eyewitnesses say the student was the aggressor. The attorney says that police did not speak to any eyewitnesses prior to Malone’s arrest.
