LaFayette High School has named longtime coach and alumnus Lee Bohannon as the Ramblers’ interim head football coach for the upcoming season.
Bohannon was recently hired as the school’s new defensive coordinator and will now step into the head coaching role following the departure of former coach Ethan Thompson, who left after two seasons to accept a coaching position in Arizona.
According to school officials, Bohannon will lead the Ramblers through the 2026 season before the school reevaluates the position ahead of the 2027-2028 school year.
Bohannon brings 36 years of coaching experience to the program, having coached at schools across Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. As a graduate of LaFayette High School, officials say his ties to the community and extensive coaching background made him a strong fit for the interim role.
LaFayette High School Principal Maggie Stultz said the timing of Thompson’s departure played a major role in the school’s decision.
“Due to the unfortunate timing of Ethan’s departure…we felt the quality of head coaches interested were not the best fit for LHS and we needed someone experienced too,” Stultz told WQCH. Lee Bohannon is more than qualified, so we approached him and he agreed.”
Stultz added that Bohannon will coach the team this season before the school determines its plans moving forward for the 2027-2028 season.
