The Walker County Civic Center campus will soon have an inclusive playground. The Walker County Board of Commissioners decided to spend $406,518.76 towards constructing a “National Demonstration Site” for inclusive play near the Civic Center pavilion.

The playground will include ramps with barriers to help children with disabilities be included in its use. This playground will include climbing features to pay homage to Walker County’s outdoor recreational attractions, like Rocktown.

Funding for the project comes primarily from SPLOST, along with the county’s tourism product development fund, which receives a small portion of hotel/motel taxes paid by visitors.

With groundbreaking be in September, the new playground will be ready for our communities children in the fall.

Phase two would expand the playground and add swings and a zipline. The planning for this is already underway.
