Employees and visitors at the Chattooga County Courthouse were temporarily displaced Wednesday as law enforcement officers investigated a reported threat against the government building.

The incident prompted an immediate response from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, which secured the area and conducted a comprehensive inspection of the courthouse. As a precaution, courthouse operations were suspended while deputies worked to determine whether any danger existed.

Following the investigation, authorities concluded that the threat was unfounded and advised county officials that normal activities could resume.

County offices inside the courthouse reopened Wednesday afternoon after receiving clearance from law enforcement.

Officials said public safety protocols were followed throughout the incident, allowing deputies and emergency personnel to thoroughly assess the situation before reopening the facility.

The disruption lasted only a portion of the business day, and no injuries or hazardous materials were discovered during the search.

County leaders expressed appreciation for the coordinated response by law enforcement and emergency personnel, as well as the patience shown by courthouse employees and residents affected by the temporary closure.

Investigators have not released details regarding the origin of the threat, and no additional information was immediately available.
