Last week’s warmer weather allowed work to commence on Gateway Park at the corner of Duke Street and Villanow. Footers were carved out, a circular form was created, and cement was poured. Ultimately, the spot will feature a rock fountain—a symbol of the outdoor recreation available in and around LaFayette.
The park, funded by a combination of SPLOST dollars and Hotel/Motel tax, is part of the resident-guided Strategic Plan to enhance the city’s appearance and will serve as a welcoming gateway for those entering from the east.
SPLOST dollars come from a 1% sales tax, allowing those who eat, shop, and visit in LaFayette to contribute to the town’s upkeep. If the weather cooperates, the park should be complete in time for the Honeybee Festival on May 31st.
