Gordon Lee High School and Blood Assurance are coming together to honor a 15-year-old student who suffered serious injuries in a golf cart crash earlier this year, while encouraging the community to help save lives through blood donations.

The blood drive will take place Friday, November 6, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on the Gordon Lee High School campus in Chickamauga.

The event is being held in honor of Will Nave, a Gordon Lee student who was seriously injured in a golf cart crash in August.

According to Blood Assurance spokeswoman Brooke Katz, Nave underwent multiple brain surgeries and required blood transfusions as part of his medical treatment.

Now, his school and the surrounding community are joining forces to recognize his journey and help ensure that lifesaving blood is available for others facing medical emergencies.

“Now, his school and community are coming together to support him and help ensure blood is available for other patients in need,” Katz stated.

Blood Assurance is encouraging eligible donors to participate in the event, emphasizing the importance of maintaining an adequate blood supply for hospitals and patients throughout the region.

As an incentive, everyone who donates blood during the drive will receive a T-shirt and a $25 e-gift card. Donors who give platelets or double red cells will receive a $40 e-gift card.

Nave’s mother, Amy Nave, is also encouraging community members to consider donating, reminding residents that the need for blood can arise unexpectedly.

“You never know when you or someone you love may be in need,” she said.

The blood drive provides an opportunity for the Gordon Lee community to show its support for Nave and his family while making a difference in the lives of other patients who depend on blood transfusions.

Those interested in participating are encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance through Blood Assurance.

Appointments for the November 6 blood drive can be made online through the Blood Assurance donation scheduler.
