LaFayette Middle School Announces Changes to Car Rider Dismissal Procedures Beginning Monday

LaFayette Middle School is making changes to its afternoon car rider dismissal procedures beginning Monday, November 2, in an effort to improve safety and traffic flow as winter sports activities get underway.

School officials announced the changes are necessary due to winter sports practices and games, along with an increase in visiting teams and schools using the building.

Under the new procedures, vehicles will continue to form two lines of traffic until reaching the football gate. At that point, the two lines will merge into a single lane closest to the sidewalk.

The change is designed to allow students to safely enter vehicles directly from the sidewalk without having to cross moving lanes of traffic.

School officials said Officer Ramey or a teacher will assist with the transition from two lanes to one lane to help ensure the process runs as safely and efficiently as possible.

During dismissal, all car riders will be sent outside to watch for their parent or guardian’s vehicle. Students will remain on the sidewalk until they see their ride arrive.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to remind their children to actively watch for their vehicles to help keep the pickup process moving smoothly.

Once students have been safely picked up, drivers may move into the left lane to exit the parking lot.

School officials emphasized that the changes are being implemented with the safety of students, families, and staff as the top priority.

LaFayette Middle School is asking parents and guardians for patience and cooperation as the new procedures take effect Monday.

The school also expressed appreciation to Officer Ramey, staff members, and families for their continued support in helping make afternoon dismissal safer and more efficient for the Rambler Family.
