In a significant development for the city, LaFayette discussed plans for Greenway Park. This initiative, funded by a substantial $2.2 million Improving Neighborhood Outcomes Federal Grant and a modest contribution from SPLOST funds, aims to enhance recreational opportunities and connectivity within the community.
The 9-acre park is set to serve as a vital link between key areas of the city, including the Ross Abney Complex and the Mars Theater District, extending further to the Main Square. Highlighting a diverse range of amenities, the park’s features cater to residents of all ages and abilities. These features include a rock climbing facility, a skate park, a disc golf course, a lighted extension to the Greenway Trail, an inclusive playground, and a lush landscaped greenspace.
The project, which commenced with initial clearing by the Public Works department during the past winter, is poised to kick into high gear with the commencement of work on the rock climbing feature this spring. While Greenway Park is anticipated to be a substantial undertaking, encompassing a comprehensive timeline extending well into 2025, residents can expect various park elements to become accessible to the public upon completion.
LaFayette officials emphasized that the Greenway Park project not only aligns with the city’s objective of fostering connectivity but also addresses the need to provide diverse recreational opportunities for residents. Throughout the duration of the project, regular updates will be provided to the community to keep them informed about the progress. Residents are encouraged to stay connected with the city’s official Facebook page for the latest developments and announcements regarding the Greenway Park project.
