The City of LaFayette has announced a list of road improvement projects scheduled for 2026, continuing its long-term approach to infrastructure upgrades across the community.
According to city officials, the following roads are set to be paved: Sleepy Hollow, Pledger Street, Johnson Street, Trails Lake, Anthony Street, Duke Street, and Hillsdale Road, the latter in partnership with Walker County.
City leaders say LaFayette takes a strategic approach to paving, focusing on long-term durability rather than quick fixes. When possible, utilities are relocated from beneath roadways before paving begins. While that process requires additional time and upfront investment, it helps prevent the need to cut into newly paved roads for future repairs.
Officials acknowledge the method is not the fastest, but say it has proven effective. Over the past decade, the city points to noticeable improvements in road quality as a result of the approach.
The 2026 paving projects will be funded through the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST), a voter-approved program dedicated to transportation improvements.
City officials say the continued investment reflects a commitment to building infrastructure that will serve residents for years to come.
