The LaFayette Police Department is recognizing three officers for their quick response and investigative work that led to the arrest of a prowling suspect earlier this month.
Staff Sergeant Houser, Sergeant Hunt and Patrolman Craig were commended by the department following an incident on August 13.
According to LaFayette Police, officers were called around 10:10 p.m. after homeowners reported seeing a suspicious person on their home security camera. The homeowners were away from the residence at the time but were able to provide officers with a description of the individual.
Staff Sergeant Houser and Patrolman Craig responded to the residence to investigate while Sergeant Hunt searched the surrounding area.
During that search, Hunt located a man matching the description provided by the homeowners. Officers then communicated with the homeowners and reviewed security footage, which police say allowed them to positively identify the man as the person seen on the property.
According to the department, the video showed the suspect looking through the window of the front door, possibly attempting to determine whether anyone was home. Police said the suspect did not enter the residence.
The suspect was taken into custody and charged with Criminal Trespass and Prowling.
The LaFayette Police Department praised Houser, Hunt and Craig for their teamwork, attention to detail and commitment to protecting the community.
“Their actions are a great example of the dedication our officers demonstrate every day as we work to keep LaFayette a safe place to live, visit, and work,” the department said.
