Outdoor enthusiasts across the state will have an opportunity to enjoy Georgia’s lakes, rivers and streams during National Fishing and Boating Week, which runs from June 6-14, 2026.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) is encouraging residents to get outside, introduce someone new to fishing and take advantage of two Free Fishing Days scheduled during the week-long celebration.

Georgia residents can fish on public waters without a fishing license, trout license or Lands Pass on Saturday, June 6, and Saturday, June 13.

“There is no better time to enjoy Georgia’s incredible fishing and boating opportunities than during National Fishing and Boating Week,” said Scott Robinson, chief of the WRD Fisheries Management Section. “Whether you are introducing a child to their first fishing trip, spending time with friends and family, or simply enjoying a quiet morning on the water, fishing and boating create lasting memories while supporting conservation through outdoor recreation.”

National Fishing and Boating Week is designed to promote outdoor recreation and encourage people of all ages to experience the benefits of fishing and boating. State wildlife officials say the event is an ideal opportunity for experienced anglers to share their passion with newcomers while spending quality time outdoors.

The annual observance also highlights the role fishing and boating play in conservation efforts, with license purchases and related outdoor recreation activities helping support wildlife management and habitat conservation programs throughout Georgia.
