Officer Charles Snyder Dunn III, known affectionately to those who knew him best as, “Chuck,” was shot during a murder-suicide earlier this month. After he was transported to an area hospital, physicians worked diligently to help him. Unfortunately, on March 13th, he succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Dunn was currently serving with the Chickamauga Police Department, where the town had adopted him as one of their own. Serving for the past fifteen years in Chickamauga, the community, students, business owners, members of Elizabeth Lee Methodist Church where he directed traffic most Sunday mornings, loved Chuck dearly. The Chickamauga Police Department has received an enormous outpouring of prayers, donations, and condolences since the passing of Officer Chuck Dunn. The department posted on their Facebook page, “Your kindness and support mean more than words can express”.
Officer Charles “Chuck” Snyder Dunn III, 52, of Rock Spring, was born in Fort Oglethorpe, to the late Charles Snyder Dunn, Jr. and Martha Quinn Dunn. He graduated from LaFayette High School, Class of 1990. He furthered his education at Auburn University where he graduated with a major in English and a minor in history.
Chuck served his country in the U.S. Navy and was a proud veteran. He began his law enforcement career with the Walker County Sheriff’s Department and he served in Kosovo with DynaCorp as an International Police Officer. Chuck was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. He loved studying history and helping dogs and cats being relocated with their owners and rescued many.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home in Chickamauga and Sunday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home in LaFayette. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Monday – March 24, 2025 at Center Grove Baptist Church with Zach Fitzpatrick and Jonathan Witt officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
