The Walker County Board of Commissioners will take up a full agenda Thursday evening, with several zoning requests, funding resolutions, and contract approvals scheduled for consideration.
The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. on May 7 and will include routine business such as approval of the agenda and minutes from previous meetings, along with a financial report from Chief Financial Officer Christian Roach.
Commissioners will also recognize Senior Citizen Day, officially set for May 13.
A public hearing will be held on multiple planning and zoning matters, including requests to rezone property on Happy Valley Road in Rossville, Round Pond Road in LaFayette, and a variance request on Dusty Trail. Public input will be limited to 12 minutes per side, in accordance with county code.
Following the hearing, commissioners will vote on several zoning decisions, including a long-standing request to rezone property on Highway 151 that has been tabled at previous meetings.
Old business includes continued discussion of a proposed ordinance that would amend the county’s animal control code to address spay and neuter requirements and pet licensing. That item has also been tabled multiple times.
A lengthy list of new business items is also on the agenda. Among them, commissioners are expected to consider setting qualifying fees for the upcoming General Primary Election, approving agreements tied to opioid settlement funds, and addressing compliance related to education sales tax bonds.
Additional items include proposed contracts for roadway safety improvements, renovations to the county’s agriculture extension building, and a new emergency medical services agreement valued at $600,000 annually.
The board is also expected to vote on appointments to the Walker County Board of Health and review agreements involving economic development and property in the Rossville area.
The meeting will conclude with commissioner comments and a possible executive session. The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 4 at 6:30 p.m.
