Walker County Fire Rescue headquarters and Fire Station 1 will be relocating to Rock Spring following the approval of a property exchange between Walker County and the Walker County Development Authority.
During their October 1 meeting, the Walker County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution authorizing the exchange of two properties to make way for the relocation.
Currently, Walker County Fire Rescue headquarters operates from Alex Drive near Highway 136 in the Kensington area, while Fire Station 1 is located at the intersection of Highway 27 and Bicentennial Trail.
Under the approved agreement, both facilities will relocate to a 5.21-acre property at the corner of Old Highway 27 and Fields Drive in the Northwest Georgia Business and Industrial Park in Rock Spring.
As part of the exchange, Walker County will transfer its 1.83-acre property at Highway 27 and Bicentennial Trail, where Station 1 currently operates, to the Walker County Development Authority.
In return, the county will receive the 5.21-acre parcel previously owned by the Development Authority.
The relocation will bring Fire Rescue headquarters and Station 1 together at a single location, replacing their current separate facilities.
County officials say funding for the project will come from the 2026 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, commonly known as SPLOST, which took effect October 1, 2026.
The relocation project was included among the capital improvements approved by Walker County voters as part of the SPLOST program.
The property exchange marks an important step toward moving the county’s fire rescue operations to the new Rock Spring location.
A construction timeline and anticipated opening date for the relocated facilities have not yet been announced.
