Walker County is among 126 counties across Georgia now designated as primary natural disaster areas due to ongoing drought conditions.
The designation was announced by the Georgia Department of Agriculture in coordination with the United States Department of Agriculture. The Secretarial Disaster Declaration makes eligible farm operators in affected counties—and those in nearby counties—able to apply for emergency loan assistance through the Farm Service Agency, provided they meet eligibility requirements.
Agriculture officials say the prolonged dry conditions are placing significant strain on farmers statewide, increasing costs and creating uncertainty during a critical growing period.
Officials said the declaration will provide much-needed federal support for producers as drought conditions persist, helping sustain farm operations and protect the state’s top industry.
Farmers seeking assistance are encouraged to contact their local Farm Service Agency office for more information on available programs and eligibility.
