The friendly rivalry between the Walker County Sheriff’s Office and the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office will return later this month as the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive takes place on June 25.
The event challenges the two law enforcement agencies to see which county can collect the most blood donations during a designated period, while helping meet a critical need for blood supplies throughout the region.
Walker County claimed bragging rights in last year’s competition, collecting 86 blood donations compared to 55 donations in Catoosa County. Together, the two counties collected 141 units of blood in just seven hours, enough to help save an estimated 423 lives.
Organizers are encouraging community members to participate again this year and help Walker County defend its title while supporting patients in need of lifesaving blood transfusions.
Blood donors may pre-register online ahead of the event, although walk-up donors will also be accepted.
Blood Assurance bloodmobiles will be stationed in front of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, located behind the courthouse on Duke Street in LaFayette.
Officials say every donation can make a significant difference, as a single blood donation has the potential to help multiple patients receiving treatment for illnesses, injuries, surgeries, and other medical emergencies.
The Battle of the Badges blood drive is scheduled for June 25 and is open to eligible donors throughout the community.
