The Governing Authority of Walker County proposes to amend Chapter 13 of its code of ordinances.  The move will join the statewide timber harvest notification system.  It will also enact fines for harvesters who fail to notify the county that they are operating; and other provisions.  Public hearings on the proposed ordinance change will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 14 and Thursday, September 28, at Walker County Courthouse Annex III, 201 S Main Street in LaFayette.
The latest restaurant health inspection report shows The Crushed Tomato in LaFayette scored a 100.  Wardlaw’s Lucky Eye-Q scored a 96.
A Calhoun couple are now facing federal prison time on child pornography charges, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.  A judge sentenced William Sandridge and Allyn Michelle Sandridge, both aged 42, to federal prison on September 6, 2023.  Allyn Sandridge is a former middle school special education teacher. While she was teaching, her husband William started sending her child pornographic text messages, the DOJ said.  William faces seven years and three months in prison, with a lifetime of supervised release. On June 6, William pleaded guilty to the distribution of a visual depiction of a minor engaging in sexual conduct.
