No school today for Walker County students. Today is a Professional Learning Day. That means, teachers and staff will be working but students can enjoy the day off. The kids are back in the class on Monday.
The Rossville Planning Commission is considering new regulations for data centers, amid questions about a proposed BridgTRK facility on Bulldog Drive. The Chattanooga-based company says the small technology and communications facility would be much smaller than large-scale data centers and would use no water for cooling. The proposed ordinance would limit data centers to five acres, with equipment space capped at 20-thousand square feet. The Planning Commission will make a recommendation to the city. The mayor and City Council will make the final decision, with a vote expected October 12.
Northwest Georgia’s labor force reached an all-time high in August, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. The region’s labor force grew by nearly one-thousand-nine-hundred over the month, reaching 461-thousand-334. Employment also hit a record high, increasing by more than one-thousand over the month to 446-thousand-318. The unemployment rate edged up two-tenths to 3-point-3 percent, but remains below the 3-point-6 percent rate recorded a year ago. Initial unemployment claims also fell in August.

Two undefeated teams collide tonight on Georgia 93-7, as LaFayette visits Murray County in a Region 7-3A showdown. Both teams are 4-and-oh overall and one-and-oh in region play. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Murray Field. LaFayette is 4-and-oh for the first time since 1991, while Murray County is off to its best start since 2001. The Ramblers are led by running back Bryson Penson, with 583 yards rushing. Murray County’s Bransyn Perry has 488 yards on the ground.
