Today is the last day to register for the November third midterm elections. The ballot includes races for governor and U.S. Senate. The deadline applies to anyone who has recently turned 18, moved to Georgia, changed addresses, or has not previously registered. Voters can check their registration status and register online through the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page. Early voting begins October thirteenth and continues through October thirtieth.
Drivers in Rossville should prepare for a road closure beginning today. Ivy Street, between LaFayette Highway and Carline Road, will be closed for culvert repairs. The work is expected to take about three days. Drivers should use alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and use caution around construction crews and equipment. The schedule could change due to weather or other unforeseen conditions.
The Walker County Board of Education will discuss a professional learning contract, district facilities, finances and academic programs during Tuesday’s nights planning session. The board will consider a professional learning contract with math consultant Terry Haney, along with updates on facilities and finances. The agenda also includes reports on curriculum, career and technical education, and the LAUNCH program, along with superintendent reports and personnel recommendations. The planning session begins at 6 p.m. tomorrow at the Advancing Education Center on Osburn Road in Chickamauga.
The Walker County Board of Commissioners approved several measures during last Thursday’s meeting, including a property exchange that will clear the way for a new Fire Rescue headquarters and Fire Station One. The county will exchange its current Station One property on Highway 27 for a larger five-acre parcel at Old Highway 27 and Fields Drive. The new site is planned for both Fire Rescue headquarters and Station One, with funding included in the county’s new SPLOST. Commissioners also approved 87-thousand dollars for milling, patching and resurfacing Ivy Street, following scheduled culvert repairs. The board also approved the 2027 holiday calendar and received updates on the county’s data center study committee, flood repairs at the Local Government Services Building and improvements at Adventure Acres.
