Walker County Schools is reporting another increase in its graduation rate, with the district continuing to outperform the statewide average. New data from the Georgia Department of Education shows Walker County’s 2026 four-year graduation rate at 93-point-2 percent — 4-point-7 percentage points higher than Georgia’s statewide rate of 88-point-5 percent. Both LaFayette and Ridgeland High Schools also posted graduation rates above 93 percent. LaFayette recorded a 93-point-2 percent rate, while Ridgeland came in at 93-point-1 percent.
Georgia voters will soon have a new sticker to wear after casting their ballots. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says five million of the new stickers have been printed ahead of the midterm elections, featuring artwork by Georgia artist Steve Penley. The stickers will be available in all 159 counties beginning with early voting on October 13. The new design will not replace the familiar “I’m a Georgia Voter” peach sticker. County election offices can choose which sticker to distribute. Raffensperger says the new sticker is meant to give voters another way to celebrate participating in the election.
The manhunt for a Trenton man wanted in connection with Tuesday’s double shooting in Dade County ended with an arrest. The Dade County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Colbin Quinn Davis was taken into custody yesterday. Davis was wanted on two aggravated assault warrants following a shooting yesterday morning on Michaels Road. Two men were shot. One suffered a gunshot wound to the head, while the other was shot in the leg. One of the victims is reportedly Davis’ brother. The search involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including the G-B-I and U-S Marshals Service, which offered a four-thousand-dollar reward for information leading to Davis’ arrest. Davis had been considered armed and dangerous.
The LaFayette Ramblers volleyball team has finished region play undefeated. The Ramblers closed out the regular season with a 7-and-0 region record, defeating Murray and North Murray on Senior Night. The Ramblers’ junior varsity team also wrapped up its season with two wins, finishing with an impressive 23-and-2 record.
