Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has announced an investigation into Ready to Register and other third-party organizations following reports that voter registration solicitations have been mailed to deceased and otherwise ineligible individuals across the state.
The Secretary of State’s Office says it has received numerous complaints about inaccurate voter registration mailers, including one case involving a deceased family dog receiving a solicitation. Officials are reviewing whether the mailings violate Georgia law or could undermine confidence in the state’s election system.
Raffensperger said many third-party voter registration groups rely on large commercial databases to conduct mass mailings ahead of major elections. He said those databases often contain outdated or incorrect information, unlike Georgia’s official voter registration system, which includes ongoing list maintenance and citizenship verification.
The investigation follows similar concerns raised in North Carolina, where election officials warned voters about mailings from Ready to Register that were sent to deceased individuals, included outdated registration forms, incorrect election office information, and faulty QR codes.
Raffensperger said the inaccurate mailings create confusion for voters and add unnecessary work for local election offices. He encouraged Georgians to verify their registration status through the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page and disregard unsolicited voter registration mail if they are already registered at their current address.
