William L. “Bill” Coats age 66, of Chattanooga, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was born in Covington, Tennessee to the late Thomas Edward Coats, Sr. and Elizabeth Marie Bridges Coats. Bill had resided most of his life in the northwest Georgia and Chattanooga area. He was a maintenance coordinator/engineer and had worked for Seaboard, Con-Agra, Cagle-Keystone Foods, CTI Foods, Pilgrim’s Pride and most recently Mars Wrigley Inc. Bill was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid Georgia Bulldawgs fan. Bill was a Tri-Athlon athlete and had competed in two Iron Man competitions. He enjoyed riding his bicycle, running and swimming, his favorite place to run and bike was in the Chickamauga Battlefield. He was a longtime member and supporter of the Y.M.C.A. in Chattanooga. He had competed in enduro motorcycle racing. Bill also loved riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles with his wife: Cindy all over the country. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters: Glenda Williams, Patricia Lynn Gregory, Betty Ruth Knepper, Shannon Lee Coats, brothers: Thomas E. Coats, Jr., Michael Ray Coats and Johnny Mark Coats. He is survived by his wife of thirty-three years: Cindy Elizabeth Dann Coats of Chattanooga, TN, their children: William R. “Billy” (Brandy) Coats of Chickamauga, GA, April Denise Coats of Chickamauga, GA, Michelle Ingle of Rossville, GA, Wendy (Anthony) Summey of Chickamauga, GA, Faith (Jim) Daly of Baltimore, MD, sisters: Elizabeth Carolyn Sarr of Covington, TN, Mary Kaye (Heidi) Coats of Tujunga Canyon, CA, thirteen grandchildren one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Monday after 12:00 noon until the service. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm - Monday, March 11, 2024 in the chapel with Jay Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park – Rossville, Georgia.
