Walker County’s unemployment rate was 3.2 percent in August, slightly below the Northwest Georgia rate of 3.3 percent. Across Northwest Georgia, both the labor force and employment reached record highs in August. The region’s unemployment rate remains below the 3.6 percent reported one year ago.
Shots were fired from a vehicle Friday night on Tate Road in the Trion area, and the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. The incident was reported around 9 p.m. There are no reports of anyone being struck or injured. Investigators say the vehicle traveled past several residences while shots were fired. Residents are asked to check doorbell, security or dashcam footage from around that time for anything showing a suspicious vehicle or unusual activity. Anyone with information should contact the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
The Walker County Board of Commissioners meets Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The county’s data center moratorium, planning and zoning, and plans for a new fire administration building and Fire Station Number One on the agenda. Commissioners will consider ratifying the data center moratorium, a land exchange tied to the new fire facilities, and a proposed 87-thousand-120-dollar change order for the Ivy Street Culvert Replacement Project. The board will also hold a public hearing on a residential zoning variance request for property on Highway 337 in LaFayette.
The LaFayette Ramblers topped Murray County Friday night 21-7. The win pushed the Ramblers to 5-0 on the season. It marks the best start in 40-years. The Ramblers will put that unbeaten mark on the line again this Friday when they travel to Ringgold. The Tigers are also 5-0 on the season.
