Here’s some more information on a story we first brought you last week. Walker County Fire Rescue headquarters and Station One are moving to Rock Spring. The County Commission approved a property swap during its meeting last Thursday. The county will trade its property at Highway 27 and Bicentennial Trail for more than five acres at Old Highway 27 and Fields Drive. That’s where the new Fire Rescue headquarters and Station One will be located. County leaders say the project will be paid for with money from the 2026 SPLOST.
Officials in Summerville say a cooking-based oil may be behind a sewer backup and spill near Lyerly Street. Police and firefighters responded Tuesday after reports of discolored material in a nearby creek. City crews found a sewer backup at a trucking facility on the former Georgia Rug Mill site. A displaced manhole allowed some of the material to enter the creek. Crews removed some of the material and took water samples for testing. The city says the substance was identified as a cooking-based oil. Officials say ongoing monitoring is not expected to be necessary.
The Georgia State Patrol says a chain-reaction crash on I-75 near Ringgold sent one driver to the hospital. GSP says three separate crashes happened yesterday morning between mile markers 347 and 348. It began when a pickup truck rear-ended a sedan. That led to another crash involving two other cars. As traffic backed up, a station wagon hit the back of a tractor-trailer. The station wagon driver was seriously injured. Two drivers were cited. One for following too closely, and another for an improper lane change. The northbound lanes were closed for about an hour and 25 minutes.
