The Walker County Chamber held a “Meet the Candidates” event last night. In all 13 candidates were given the opportunity to address the large crowd at the Walker County Civic Center. Featured were the candidates for Sheriff, Commission Chair, County Commissioner, Superior Court Judge, Coroner and State Senate. Early Voting starts Monday. Election Day is May 21st.

A federal court has denied a request to prevent 4 GOP candidates from appearing on the ballot in Catoosa County. The request was part of a restraining order motion filed by Catoosa County’s Republican Party. The court denied the request because “the requested relief would not be in the public’s best interest.” The Catoosa County GOP has claimed that it has the First Amendment right to select who will be its standard bearers. This is just the latest in an ongoing saga.

Gas prices across Georgia held steady last week. According to Triple-A, Dade, Walker and Catoosa Counties continue to have the best prices in the state. The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded locally is $3.29. Statewide the price is $3.42 per gallon.

Governor Brian Kemp signed a law yesterday that will give up to $6,500 to some Georgia families. The money can be used for private school tuition or home-schooling expenses. Kemp also signed a bill yesterday that requires parents to give permission before kids younger than 16 could create social media accounts.
